Biography
William R. Storey

William R. (Bill) Storey was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, and graduated with honours in the Arts programme at the University of British Columbia in 1969. Bill was called to the Bar in the Province of British Columbia in 1980, and has practiced family law in Vancouver since 1982. He has had his own family law practice in Vancouver since 1984. Over the years Bill has been counsel in many difficult child custody cases and in recent years he has developed a particular expertise in the handling of parental child abduction cases, cases in which children have been abducted by one of their parents and taken to other areas of the country or other countries. He has developed a wide ranging knowledge of the law regarding international parental child abduction and has had a great deal of success in assisting parents whose children have been abducted by the other parent in the recovery of their children. He has acted for many Canadian parents who have been attempting to locate and recover their abducted children from other countries and has assisted such parents in the successful location and recovery of their children from many different countries, including the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom and Morocco. He has also assisted parents from other countries, including Germany, France, Hungary, the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom, whose children have been abducted to Canada by the other parent in the successful location and recovery of their children and return of those children to their homelands.

Bill is a member and supporter of a number of international organizations who promote the prompt and effective location and recovery of internationally abducted children and the return of such children to their homelands, including reunite, the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts and the Missing Children Society of Canada. He has given presentations and has written a number of articles and contributed to a number of publications regarding enforcement of custody orders and the law and practice in the field of location and recovery of internationally abducted children.

Bill has also been appointed as a Child Advocate in a number of difficult child custody cases. In that capacity he has acted as counsel for children who have been caught up in disputes between their parents regarding custody and access and has attempted to ensure that those disputes are resolved in ways which promote the best interests of the children.

Bill also promotes and supports the resolution of family law disputes by agreement. He has taken mediation training and collaborative law training. He is a member of the British Columbia Collaborative Divorce group and in recent years he has been counsel for one of the parties in a number of collaborative law cases.
